Stuck in my rainbow by Deb Lawson

Stuck in my rainbow. It’s a good thing.

I’ve always been goal oriented.

I’ve always been driven to achieve; surpass my targets/objectives.

I’m one of those crazy peeps who loves to riddle my office with sticky notes.
There is organized madness served by the various colour schemes.

It’s my personal rainbow.

After retiring from Corporate life last Spring, I began pursuing a new path of passion and purpose. It has renewed my mission to be sticky.

Yup, I’ve returned to sticky-note-life.

Yup, I know (and love) the notes feature on my phone. I use it religiously.

Yup, and admit it — you’ve done this too! — emailed yourself from time to time as an idea comes, or something I cannot forget to do. I email myself several times over the course of the day.

But nothing compares to the colourful instant gratification of my rainbow.

My “Goal Jar”. It’s the culmination of all the little GOOD THINGS that have been achieved each week with my 3-category-goal system.

Yup, everyone needs a system in my view.

For me, it’s in my jar of sticky-notes.

HEALTH = Green
I’m no good to anyone if I’m not healthy. I’m committed to a healthy lifestyle, healthy conversations, healthy connections, healthy relationships, and a wellness mission so my every breathe bursts with enthusiasm and joy. Every single day.

(oh, and maybe I’m training for mountain-bike season!)

FAMILY = Yellow
Family comes first.

I’ve always operated with this mantra.

That, and time is precious. Use it wisely.

Time we spend as a family, for family, with family is core to my very being.

I’ve accepted that being smack-dab in the sandwich generation is truly a gift. A blessed gift. Empty-nesting is also a gift.

I’m using my gifts wisely and intentionally, with priority.

WEALTH = Blue
Wealth in the sense of creating something of value to humanity.

I’ve experienced so much, learned so much, and loved so much. The movement, learning, and experience I’m helping to create with leaders2inspire is truly priceless and full of richness in the ways that matter most to me.

My Goal Jar sits on my desk. I can see the colours, progress, and balance of my goals. Colour-by-colour / sticky-by-sticky, I add my accomplishments to the jar every week. It serves as daily reminder on how I’m doing with all the little things that add up to be BIG things.

It’s going to overflow at some point, and that will excite me to know end. I’m going to save these little treasured sticky-notes and read them every 3 months, and then again at the end of the year. Then celebrate them all!

I’ve got a stack 8″ high of sticky notes. Including pink and orange ones which I’m sure will get weaved in somehow, someway, with purpose.

InDEBted …………

Life is too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people that treat you right, forgive the ones who don’t, and believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said it would be easy; they just promised it would be worth it. (Courtesy source of course: Dr. Suess)
